People behind on their bills . . .

Today I pray for the people that are behind on their bills. Whether it is a late mortgage payment, overdue credit card, hospital bills that continue to increase, or just some other fee hanging over your heads, bills can become burdensome when they get out of hand. “The borrower is slave to the lender” sums up the truth of this burden (Prov. 22:7). The borrowers become a slave or bound to the lender in their mind as they seek to figure out how to pay, avoid having to pay, or seek to simply put it away from their mind and live in denial. We are slaves to that which we obey (Romans 6:16). If we continue to obey the law of debt and want, we will always be slaves to debt and want. If we choose to obey the law of delayed gratification and paid in full, we will live in the freedom that they offer. The change in our finances begins with a change in our soul (our mind, emotions and will). We must choose to abandon the belief that we “must” have something even when it is not in our means to have it. We must begin to understand that our identity is not in what we have but in what or who has us. We must begin to lay aside the weight and even the sin that so easily entangles and hinders us (Hebrew 12:1). We must surrender our dreams, plans, and ideas to the Author and Finisher of our Faith who has already given us everything we need for life and godliness (1 Peter 1:3).

Today I pray for people behind on their bills. Father I ask that you help them to not grow weary and to know that you long to be gracious to them (Is.30:18). You are there, in their situations, full of compassion and love. I pray that you would guard their minds against the accuser and against any misperceptions that they have of you. Father, I pray that you will help them to see their value in you and help them to know that You are greater that their greatest debt. We believe that all things are possible with you. Help them to surrender their fears of lack, failure, rejection and any other insecurities to you. Help them to know that you have called them to be lenders and not borrowers. Bless every effort to put things in order and surround them with the support they need to overcome this barrier to their freedom. Father, you paid our greatest debt on the cross so we know that nothing is too great for you. Help us to see money and things as you do. We surrender to you this day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
